Profile - Singapore Discovery Centre
The
Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC) is a world-class theme park that offers
fun and entertainment through hi-tech and interactive attractions that
showcase Singapore's milestones and achievements. It covers an area of
more than 10 hectares, including the main building, the Discovery Gallery,
iWERKS Theatre, food court, classrooms, offices, Hospitality/VIP suites,
as well as outdoor attractions and a Children's Adventureland.
But what keeps the S$70 million centre filled are the hardy machines on rooftop that stand tall, branded with pride from Carrier.
Completed
in August 1996, the Land Estate Organisation (project manager) recommended
Carrier during the blue print stage of the SDC. And during the peak seasons
where 2,000 to 3,000 visitors walk through the doors everyday in awe with
majestic discoveries, Carrier has always risen to the challenge of its
continuous task to cool 80 percent of this 10-hectare wonder.
"Carrier has been with SDC since the beginning, using its liquid-chiller and multi-split Carrier system," said Lee Choon Nam, SDC's deputy manager (Estate).
And why Carrier?
For
Choon Nam, he imagines it is because Carrier has been in the commercial
line for many years, still heading the market with its reputability and
reliability. As well, due to this massive area of SDC, designed to an
"open gallery" concept with a unique triangular roof structure
and supporting rectangular buildings, energy conservation is always an
important factor to take note of.
"So far so good," quipped Choon Nam, obviously happy with things. "I believe that Carrier's systems are capable of conserving energy."
"The
after sales service, so far as I have encountered, is effective,"
continued Choon Nam in his endless praise of Carrier's renowned service.
"As far as I'm concerned, the Carrier man really can!"
And so, from theatres to parks to a jungle survival area to galleries to tunnels to stimulators, SDC's geometric forms and luminous colours which instantly identify it as a compelling public attraction, will always be a welcoming cool for visitors from around the globe.
