Profile - Madam Yeo, Warner Court
Getting
to know Madam Yeo Ho Lian makes one wonder if there is any limit to the
energy and bubbly nature that flows through her. She may be seventy years
of age, but that number becomes immediately questionable when one hears
of her daily activities.
This cheerful and energetic lady makes full use of her time by engaging in social work with the Community Chest at Penang Lane. As such, she spends most of her time outdoors, and is usually home only at nights. With a smile in her voice, she adds that she exercises by walking to the shopping centre in her free time!
Home for Mdm Yeo is an apartment in Warner Court, a condominium at Holland Village, where she lives with her son and daughter-in-law. The apartment is cooled by Carrier air-conditioners which have been keeping the family of three cooled for 10 years.
Mdm Yeo says she does not use the aircon as often as her son and daughter-in-law, as she believes that too much of it is "…bad for old muscles". She says they have no such worry, for they enjoy air-conditioning at "full-blast", especially when they have visitors. However, Mdm Yeo cannot resist the temptation of enjoying cool air, and indulges in it once a week. She switches on the aircon in order to cool the room while she is out. When she returns, she switches it off and relaxes in the coolness of her bedroom.
Mdm Yeo has 'warm' feelings for Carrier. She says she has had no problem with them all these years, and the 10-year 'old faithful' air-conditioners are still running smoothly. "The maintenance service is very good," she said. "My Carrier men come once every two months and make sure the aircons are working fine."
"They are like people, you know!" she exclaimed with a twinkle in her eye. "If you look after them, they will continue to give you many long years of service."
And that is a lesson many of us can learn from her.
